Jerusalem Productions

The Jerusalem Trust

Think of Christianity-focused broadcasting in the UK and, historically, the extent of the average person’s knowledge would be Songs of Praise.

Jerusalem Productions Limited is a co-production company, wholly owned by The Jerusalem Trust, that helped to alter this perception – changing the face of religious broadcasting in the UK.

As well as investing in faith-focused mainstream programmes for terrestrial television throughout the 1990s and 2000s – including Carols from Prague (1990), Priest Idol (2004), and On Angel Wings (2012) – Jerusalem Productions specifically encouraged Easter programmes on Independent Local Radio at a time when religious programming was scarce.

Four8’s The Final Judgement

Together, The Jerusalem Trust and Jerusalem Productions advocated for the 1990 Broadcasting Act to allow Christian broadcasting in the UK, and subsequently supported Premier Christian Radio to become the largest Christian broadcaster in Europe.

Jerusalem Productions has tirelessly adapted to broadcast trends over its 30-year history. Between 1998 and 2018, it was probably best known within the religious broadcasting world for the Jerusalem Awards, which were a unique platform to recognise and celebrate Christian programming on mainstream channels.

In recent years, Jerusalem Productions has pivoted to producing its own content and has launched Four8 Media – a groundbreaking production company challenging ideas about spirituality across multiple digital platforms. It delves into the core of controversial issues in society and revisits stories from the Bible with a contemporary eye, producing and distributing video and audio content that intrigues the modern generation.

With a multi-platform approach and work on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok – not to mention a surge in spiritual interest among young people – the days of Songs of Praise being the singular religious broadcasting touchpoint are long gone.
