The Resurgence Trust

News about climate change and the environment are now part of the daily discourse. When the magazine Resurgence was first published, in 1966, these issues were at the fringes of mainstream debate. Subjects like endangered environment, renewable energy, and ecological economics garnered little of the attention they receive today.

The relevance of Resurgence increases by the year. Since 2008, The Tedworth Charitable Trust has provided core support to the Resurgence Trust, the educational charity which produces the magazine. The funding has enabled the organisation to grow and evolve with resilience, acting as a powerful catalyst to inspire positive change in a time of global crisis.

The Resurgence Trust works to advance education on a range of issues including conservation, regeneration of the natural environment, arts, and culture. It achieves this through three main programmes - the Resurgence & Ecologist magazine, The Ecologist website, and the production of a series of events, conferences, and workshops. Across this work, the aim is to foster a greater connection to nature and enhance personal wellbeing, support resilient communities, and inform change towards regenerative societies that enrich our natural environment.

Managing the magazine and its readers itself is a unique proposition in the publishing sector. Editor Satish Kumar – described as a “peace pilgrim”– has been a tireless advocate for humane global change across five decades and been awarded Honorary Doctorates at five UK universities. He also received the Jamnalal Bajaj International Award for promoting Gandhian values outside of India.

At a time when climate change threatens the present world order, Resurgence presents a vision of the future where economics enhances ecology, politics preserves peace, and democracy ensures social justice.
